Long-Lost Prototype For A Sega Mega Drive Version Of AKIRA Has Made Its Way Online

A long-lost version of a video game based on the Akira manga/anime, that was supposed to release for the Sega Mega Drive but never saw the light of day, has finally found its way online.

In the early 90s, Sega and developer Black Pearl Software were working on an adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo's critically acclaimed Akira; a video game that was supposed to release in 1995 but, sadly, never got to see the light of day.

Today, after almost 25 years since this Akira video game adaptation was supposed to release for the Sega Mega Drive, a prototype for the game has found its way online — giving us a pretty good idea of what the game would've looked, and played like if it had been released.

Thanks to Hidden Palace, we can now watch almost an hour's worth of gameplay from Akira for the Sega Mega Drive, although it is worth mentioning that this prototype is in very early stages of development, and the game is barely even playable.

As seen on the video of the Akira prototype, the game would've featured first-person action, some 2D platforming/ beat 'em up, a mandatory third-person motorcycle scene, and some pretty faithful recreatins based on scenes from the movie.
