We're drawing closer to the end of the year, which is also the end of the decade, and review aggregator site Metacritic has already begun making lists with some of the best-reviewed titles of both the year and the decade.
Just last week, we found out that
Metacritic's highest rated game of the year was Capcom's critically acclaimed Resident Evil 2 remake, with a very well-deserved Metascore of 92/100, and closely followed by From Software's also critically acclaimed
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Today, Metacritic has revealed a list with the Top 50 best-reviewed video games of the decade; with Nintendo and Rockstar Games leading the list with some heavy hitters like
Super Mario Galaxy 2 and
Red Dead Redemption 2, respectively.
The most interesting thing is that Metacritic's Top 5 actually consists of games from either Nintendo or Rockstar Games, all tied with a solid Metascore of 97/100, although Metacritic lists them in this order:
1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo Wii, 2010) – 97/100
2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo Switch, 2017) – 97/100
3. Red Dead Redemption 2 (PlayStation 4, 2018) – 97/100
4. Grand Theft Auto V (PlayStation 4, 2014) – 97/100
5. Super Mario Odyssey (Nintendo Switch, 2017) – 97/100
According to the list, Metacritic considered only the version that was best-reviewed — keeping in mind that, for obvious reasons, games usually get different scores depending on the platform these released for; performance plays a huge role in this.
For those wondering, Square Enix's
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition, for the Nintendo Switch, is the last game that qualifies for the Metacritic's Top 50, with a very solid Metascore of 91/100.
