Although the development team at Supermassive Games is hard at work on the first chapter of
The Dark Pictures anthology, many fans of their previous title
, Until Dawn, have been hoping that the studio could be potentially secretly making a sequel to that critically acclaimed PlayStation 4-exclusive horror from 2015 – unfortunately, it looks like Supermassive has no plans to continue the original story.
In a recent interview with Game Informer, Supermassive Games CEO and Executive Producer Pete Samuels confirmed that the developer is fully focusing on
Man of Medan right now. "
After Until Dawn, [many] started to request a sequel, and it still happens today, so we know there is a fanbase that likes this kind of thing," Samuels said. "
A lot of [creating the anthology] is about our desire to serve that fanbase from our perspective and to serve us ourselves in what we love to do, which is do more stories and characters, and do it more frequently than one or two every few years."
When it comes to the aforementioned anthology, it will feature at least five games, each telling a different story in a different horror genre. “
On an anthology, it’s a great opportunity to wrestle with a new subject, a new genre, and with characters that you can develop specifically for that story. You’re not tied to historical characters that you have to use,” Game Director Tom Heaton explained.
“
If we were making sequels, we don’t know who survived. I mean we could probably work it out from your game save, but we don’t want to make a sequel to that. We want to make a different story with different people," Series Producer Dan McDonald added. As a reminder, the upcoming
Man of Medan will put the spotlight on a group of friends who embark a dangerous journey in a stormy sea.
