There was a time when the first Crysis was the PC benchmark. The second edition of CryEngine (that also powered the first Far Cry) used to destroy graphic cards and the "But can it run Crysis?" phrase became an Internet meme. The revolutionary title gave the "PC Master Race" crowd the "final" evidence that their hardware is indeed superior, as both PS3 and Xbox 360 couldn’t handle Crysis.

Sadly, Crytek, the studio that gave us the Crysis trilogy, has been facing financial problems since the release of Crysis 3 in 2013. The developer was forced to sell the rights to Homefront (The Revolution was published by Deep Silver in 2016) and Crytek UK's staff were transferred to Dambuster Studios. On 20 December 2016, Crytek announced that their studios in Hungary, Bulgaria, South Korea, and China would be also shut down and Crytek Black Sea was ultimately sold Sega and Creative Assembly.

The Xbox One owners will finally have a chance to check out the former PC destroyer and its sequels on their console. It will be interesting to see how well the most powerful console of all time handles the Crysis trilogy that is backward compatible and available for purchase today. We should see the Digital Foundry crew's analysis pretty soon, but even without it, the Crysis trilogy is definitely worth your time.
