Prime Video's Fallout TV series premiered today to rave reviews and it seems inevitable that a press release will quickly follow, proclaiming that the show has broken some type of premiere record for the streaming app.
So with Fallout's successful transition from game to television show under their belt, is Bethesda Game Studios looking at other games in their roster that could also make the same leap?
Possibly. But Bethesda director Todd Howard doesn't think that possibility holds true for Elder Scrolls.
"There's nothing in the works," Howard told IGN, before adding: "Everybody asks, like, about Elder Scrolls, and I keep saying no also. And I would approach those - I'll probably say no."
Howard went on to add that the Fallout television show wasn't necessarily something that the game studio sought out.
Todd explained, "You never know if someone's gonna click. But I think this really came out of, 'We think things are aligning to do a high-quality job'. It wasn't forced. It was kind of a natural relationship and 'hey, this sounds really cool'. As opposed to, 'We should have a show', right? It never came from that."
The Elder Scrolls is a huge action role-playing video game series based on players having an absurd amount of choice and exploration.
The Elder Scrolls games are famed for their expansive, open environments in which players may freely explore and accomplish objectives at their own time. Some players simply wonder the game world and never complete the main story.
There are five core games in the series, each with its own story and world:
- The Elder Scrolls: Arena (1994)
- The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall (1996)
- The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (2002)
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (2006)
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011)
Since Bethesda Softworks is currently developing The Elder Scrolls VI, not much is known about it other than the fact that it was formally revealed in 2018 with a teaser video.
It is the next big game that Bethesda Game Studios is working on, following the release of Starfield in 2023.
Although there isn't an official release date yet, Todd Howard of Bethesda said in a previous interview that there will be a lengthy wait.
Microsoft recently acquired Bethesda, so while unconfirmed, there's a distinct possibility that the Elder Scrolls VI will be exclusive to the Xbox.
