The rumored Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake could be revealed within the next couple of weeks. Industry insider NatetheHate took to social media to share details about the remake, which was first alleged to be in development in 2023, and now VGC has corroborated his claims with their own sources.

NatetheHate claims that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake will be announced either this month or in April with a release "sooner than the original June target."

VGC, however, reports that the game could be released early as this month.

It's believed that the Oblivion remake is in development by Virtuos, a fairly large game studio established in 2004 that helps support the development of major AAA games and bring existing titles to new platforms. The studio has previously worked on Call of DutyBattlefieldUnchartedTom Raider, and Dark Souls. It's currently supporting Konami with development on the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake.

While Bethesda has yet to officially announced the Oblivion remaek, it was mentioned in a leaked court document that revealed in a roadmap of planned games from 2020. It's expected that the game will be "fully remade" using Unreal Engine 5 with reworks to some of it's major systems, including stamina, sneaking, blocking, arhery, hit reaction, and HUD. MP1st was one of the first to share details about these changes earlier this year.

The blocking system is said to be inspired by Souls-like and action games with the hopes of improving upon the original game's "boring" and "frustrating" system. The stamina system has also been modified to be "less frustrating," specifically making knockdowns more difficult to activate. The Sneak icons are now highlighted, while the HUD has been changed to make it more easier to understand and streamlined for new, young players. Hit reactions have also been added, while Archery has been improved in both third and first-person viewpoints.

All of these details come by way of a former Virtuos employee who supposedly worked on the game from 2023 to 2024. Keep in mind that none of it has been confirmed by Bethesda. But at this point, with multiple sources corroborating the rumor, it seems like it's only a matter of time before the Oblivion remake is officially announced.

The original Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was released in 2006 for XBox 360 and PC. It came to PlayStation 3 in 2007. Bethesda, which developed and co-published the original game is now owned by Microsoft, so it will be interesting to see if the remake is released as a multiplatform title or if it will be exclusive to Xbox and PC at launch.
