Remastered SKYRIM Reportedly Looks Better On The PlayStation 4 Than The PS4 Pro
The PS4 Pro is now on sale, but some are already finding fault with the console which promises improved graphics thanks to its 4K abilities. As a result, that's bad news for owners of the remastered Skyrim...
The Skyrim franchise has always had a bit of a rough time with Sony. When it was released on the PlayStation 3, it included a game breaking bug the second your save file reached 6MB. So far, things have gone fairly well for the remastered edition on the PlayStation 4, but Digital Foundry (via Eurogamer) have already spotted a fairly worrying issue with the title on the newly released PS4 Pro.
Despite the fact the graphics obviously look quite a bit better on the 4K enabled system, there's a major frame rate issue which means that Skyrim simply can't cope with everything that's happening on screen, and that significantly slows things down. According to the site, "scenes that feature use of alpha-heavy effects cause frame-rates to deviate from the desired 30fps target. In like-for-like situations, the PS4 Pro game sees a 2-3fps deficit, resulting in more noticeable stutter compared to the title running on the standard PS4 console. The base PS4 performance isn’t impacted to the same degree, with only a few 1-3fps drops cropping up on occasion across a general run of play."
Two or three frames may not sound like a big deal, but it does cause mean that Skyrim will run and look better on the PlayStation 4 over the much pricier PS4 Pro. It's now going to be interesting to see which other titles (specifically those not designed with the Pro in mind) suffer from similar issues...
