Marvel Heroes Omega's servers are shutting down effective immediately, the game's developers Gazillion Entertainment have announced. The sunsetting of the game's servers comes about a month earlier than expected, although reports indicated that would be the case. Taking to the game's official Twitter account, the developers wrote:

"It is with great sadness that we announce the closing of Gazillion Entertainment. As a result, we are no longer able to operate Marvel Heroes Omega until December 31 as originally planned. Instead Marvel Heroes Omega will be sunset immediately on all platforms and will no longer be available as soon as this process is completed. The company would like to sincerely thank its fans and employees for all the support over years of development and live service."

News broke about two weeks ago that Marvel had ended its relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, with no official explanation at the time. Since then a leaked memo from Gazillion CEO Dave Dohrmann explained, "banking creditors have effectively pulled the plug on the company, leading to the termination of almost every employee at the studio." As a result, employees were laid off with no paid out PTO or severance, and soon-to-be-expiring medical insurance.

Marvel Heroes first launched on PC back in 2013 and became Marvel Heroes Omega earlier this year when it was ported to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The free-to-play game was developed in the same vein as Diablo, with additional characters, costume variations, and in-game resources sold for real money. While the shuttering of Marvel Heroes seems like a shock, many players had suspected something was going on behind the scenes when Gazillion had missed several community updates.

But while we say goodbye to one Marvel game, we ready to usher in another one. Marvel recently announced a new mobile RPG, MARVEL Strike Force.
