New SCUM Update Removes All The Tattoos And Nazi Symbols

The new PC game, Scum, used to include a wide array of tattoos and even had Nazi symbols. For instance, the characters in the game used '88' and iron crosses. However, the game fixed that with an update.

SCUM is one of the latest phenomenons of video games. The project, developed by Gamepires and Croteam and edited by Devolver Digital, is a game of survival and multiplayer action, in which prisoners from all prisons in the world kill each other in a television program.

However, the successful video game has been the subject of controversy because it includes numerous references of Nazi ideology in its designs. Given the overwhelming complaints of the players, their managers have confirmed that the offensive images have been removed and that the title will undergo an exhaustive review process.

The images included references to 88 and Iron Crosses

The videogame, in Early Access on Steam, offered a pack of downloadable content called The Scum Supporter Pack a few days ago, in which images of Nazi and neo-Nazi symbology have been found. According to reddit users, there was a bit of everything. The DLC, launched on August 29th, offered tattoos with references to 88 and 14 -which have a great deal of ideology- to macabre versions of the Iron Cross.

While some players saw a direct connection to Nazism, others simply believed that it was a realistic design for the game, which invites us to embody and kill other convicts and criminals staying on an island. In fact, several users defended this type of skins and visual pieces as a sign of plausibility to the faction of the game. However, despite the justification that could provide the context of the game, the controversy was too big, and both Steam and social networks like Twitter were filled with criticism of the game.

The issue reached such heights, as they explain in Polygon, that Devolver Digital itself had to issue an urgent statement explaining that any symbol would be removed immediately and that they would submit the game to a complete surveillance process to avoid this type of problem.

"Devolver Digital has become aware of tattoos representing neo-Nazi symbology in the newly released prison survival simulation game Scum. We do not agree with use of this symbology or any hateful content, regardless of intention.

The use of the tattoo was intended to assist in portraying a realistic element of prison culture and the horrid elements within it. This content has been patched out as of this morning, and Devolver Digital are currently conducting a full review of all assets and content in the game with Gamepires. We strongly condemn any and all use of hateful symbology in our games and agree it should have never been in the game regardless of creative intent or realism. Devolver Digital apologizes unreservedly."

Action, Survival and Multiplayer

SCUM is available in the Steam Early Access and it's a development of Gamepires and Croteam that proposes action and survival in an open multiplayer world. It is a world in which society needs increasingly stronger entertainment. In this way, attention is derived in those programs where blood itself is the protagonist. This is how the SCUM television program was born, a reality show in which prisoners must survive at all costs.

The key to success lies in mastering the relevant skills that will help make survival easier. In this way, not only can they alleviate basic needs, but they can also receive gifts from the public.
