Rifter is an action platformer developed and published by small independent studio IMakeGames. The studio was founded by Maximilian Csuk, who single-handedly developed games like
Nubs' Adventure, and
Rico: A Tale of Two Brothers - except for the audio.
Csuk's new game -
Rifter - heavily draws inspiration from the 80s aesthetic, as well as that amazing synthwave soundtrack that is so characteristic of that time. With beautiful graphics, awesome music and huge levels to traverse, players will find themselves running, swinging, smashing, and dashing at breathtakingly fast speeds.
The game will feature over 90 stages with challenging obstacles and brutal boss fights, as well as over 30 character upgrades, unlockable skills and multiple endings. Gameplay-wise, the game is said to be a lovechild of
Sonic,
Dust Force,
Hotline Miami, and
Bionic Commando - and it shows.
Rifter is fast-paced like
Sonic games, the aesthetic reeks of
Dust Force and
Hotline Miami, and the hook mechanics found in
Bionic Commando.
Rifter looks exactly like every 80s kid's dream game thatl lets our imagination run wild as we are transported back to that time where sci-fi and retrofuturism were walking hand in hand.
