Just last month, THQ Nordic officially announced the acquisitions of two acclaimed studios and their IPs, Bugbear (FlatOut, Wreckfest) and Logic Artists (Expeditions: Conquistador). The new THQ seemingly can't help themselves, and just announced the acquisition of the rights to Carmageddon from Stainless Games, the producer of the 1997 classic and its less successful sequels and remake.
Publisher by Interplay Productions, Carmageddon was a subject of controversy from the beginning, as it allowed the player to run over pedestrians and animals. In many countries (including Germany and the UK, where the BBFC refused to certify the game unless all blood and gore was removed), the first release of the game was censored, while the title was banned completely in some places.
Following the launch of two less-successful sequels, the re-imagination of the series titled Carmageddon: Reincarnation was released in May 2015 to mixed reviews. While THQ Nordic has not revealed any plans for the series just yet, it's good news for the fandom, as Carmageddon might return one day with a new production crew, hefty budget, and even more controversies fueling its popularity.
