Last month, Producer at Electronic Arts Jim Vessella promised that the company has some ambitious plans to celebrate the upcoming 25th Year Anniversary of the very first
Command and Conquer game. Yeah, the first
Command & Conquer launched in 1995, and EA proudly announced today that the original game and the series' first spin-off
Command & Conquer: Red Alert are going to be remastered.
"
Today, I’m thrilled to tell you we are going back to the beginning," Vessella said. "
We have decided to remaster Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn. And while this is incredibly exciting on its own, we’re also aware of how passionate the community is about the Red Alert universe. So, we will also remaster the original Command & Conquer: Red Alert. But what about the classic expansion packs you may ask - Covert Ops, Counterstrike, and Aftermath? Well, C&C and Red Alert wouldn’t be the same without them, so all three expansion packs will be bundled with the base games into one remastered collection - without microtransactions."
The remaster collection will be developed at Petroglyph Games, which includes many of the original developers from Westwood Studios that was closed by EA in 2003. In addition to the Petroglyph Games team, EA has also teamed-up with Lemon Sky Studios to help bring these original games to 4K glory. EA hasn't revealed the collection's release date yet, but we do know it's heading to PC.
In the meantime, Electronic Arts still has plans to launch Redwood Studios' real-time player versus player mobile game
Command & Conquer Rivals on December 4, 2018, exclusively for Android and iOS.
