Electronic Arts officially announced
Command & Conquer: Rivals at EA Play 2018. The first seconds of the game's reveal trailer made the
C&C fandom happy, as players have been begging the publisher to revive the unfortunately forgotten and classic real-time PC strategy series for years, only to be let down when it turned out that
C&C: Rivals is built from the ground up exclusively for mobile devices.
Since that announcement,
Rivals remains the most disliked trailer that debuted during E3 2018 with over 60,000 dislikes on YouTube alone. What's even more telling Angry Joe's rant about the current state of
Command & Conquer has more views than the said trailer. It looks like EA has finally acknowledged the complicated issue and is planning to release proper
C&C remasters next year.
"
As most of you may know, we recently announced Command & Conquer: Rivals, a mobile game set in the Command & Conquer universe. Following the reveal of Rivals, we heard you loud and clear: the Command & Conquer community also wants to see the franchise return to PC," said Jim Vessella, a Producer at Electronic Arts in an OpenRA forum statement. "
And as a fan of C&C for over 20 years, I couldn’t agree more. With that in mind we’ve been exploring some exciting ideas regarding remastering the classic PC games, and already have the ball rolling on our first effort to celebrate the upcoming 25th Year Anniversary." Yes, the first
Command & Conquer launched in 1995.
Vessella promised that more details will be released in the next few weeks and fans' voice will be heard. The fact that
Rivals won't feature a single-player component indicated that it will only appeal to those who enjoy multiplayer. Considering that it's been six years since the last major
C&C game, it may be the right move to remind players about one of the most respected PC series of all time.
Command & Conquer: Rivals is a thrilling, competitive experience built to define Real-Time Strategy for Mobile. Featuring intense, 1v1 real-time matches with rival commanders, you test your skills in combat in the War for Tiberium. Master the battlefield with continuous control of your forces, crush your rivals, and lead your army to victory.
Command & Conquer: Rivals doesn't have a release date yet.
