Warhammer 40K Dawn of War IV finally has a firm release date. Developer KING Art and publisher Deep Silver announced at Warhammer Skulls 2026 that the real-time strategy sequel will arrive on PC on September 17 2026. Along with the date the team also revealed a detailed first-year post-launch roadmap that includes two major paid expansions and several free content updates.
Pre-orders are now live. The standard edition is available for $53.99 USD with a 10 percent launch discount. The Commander Edition priced at $80.99 USD bundles the base game with both Year 1 DLC expansions and grants three days of early access starting September 14 2026. Players who prefer to wait can purchase the expansions separately after launch.
The first paid expansion Blood Ravens is scheduled for Winter 2026. The second expansion titled Aftermath follows in Spring 2027. Between those releases the team has planned several free updates to keep the game fresh. Shortly after launch in Fall 2026 players will receive the first new map pack plus the return of the beloved Crusade Mode. A second map pack and additional Crusade Mode content will arrive before the Blood Ravens expansion drops.
As someone who spent countless hours commanding Space Marines Blood Ravens and Orks in the original Dawn of War back in the mid-2000s I am genuinely excited to see this series return. The first game and its expansions defined real-time strategy for me with its brutal melee combat deep faction asymmetry and that unmistakable Warhammer 40K atmosphere of grim darkness and endless war. Dawn of War IV looks to recapture that same feeling while modernizing the formula for today's hardware and player expectations.
The roadmap shows that KING Art is committed to supporting the game beyond launch. Free map packs and Crusade Mode updates will give players new battlefields and campaign-style progression without extra cost while the two paid expansions promise substantial new content including fresh factions units and storylines. This structure mirrors the long-term support model that made earlier Dawn of War titles feel like living experiences rather than one-and-done releases.
Dawn of War IV arrives at an exciting time for Warhammer strategy fans. Later in 2026 Creative Assembly is expected to release Total War Warhammer 40K giving players two very different but equally massive takes on the 41st millennium in the same year. Many outlets including our own have already called 2026 the potential Year of Warhammer and Dawn of War IV looks ready to play a major role in making that prediction come true.
The new gameplay trailer shown during the Warhammer Skulls showcase highlighted updated visuals large-scale battles and the return of signature faction mechanics that longtime fans will recognize immediately. With the base game set to deliver a full single-player campaign multiplayer modes and the classic Dawn of War gameplay loop the stage is set for a strong return to form.
September 17 2026 is still a few months away but the combination of a concrete release date a clear post-launch plan and the promise of new expansions has the Warhammer community buzzing. For those of us who grew up building dozer armies and spamming bolter fire in the original Dawn of War this feels like the right moment for the series to come roaring back. Whether you plan to jump in at launch with the Commander Edition or wait for the free updates one thing is certain the grim darkness of the far future is about to get a whole lot more strategic.
