Yakuza is one of Sega's most popular on-going franchises that originated on the PlayStation 2. The first game in the series came out in 2005 getting a lot of well-deserved praise by critics—who thought highly of the story, character development, and gameplay mechanics.
The
Yakuza series just ended with
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, which released in the West this April, but Sega are doing their best to try and keep things fresh by releasing
Yakuza Kiwami 1 and
2—remakes of the first 2
Yakuza games—as well as HD remasters of
Yakuza 3,
4, and
5. In 2015, Sega also released a prequel to the series titled
Yakuza 0—also starring main series' protagonist Kazuma Kiryu.
For the most part,
Yakuza games have been PlayStation exclusives although there was an attempt to port the HD remasters of
Yakuza 1 and
2 to the Nintendo Wii U—which sadly flopped because of the lack of popularity Nintendo's console had throughout its life span. But there's good news, since Sega may be wanting to port the series to a platform it's never been on before: the PC.
Sega has decided to port
Yakuza 0 to PC, giving new players the chance to experience the origins to one of their most highly acclaimed franchises.
Yakuza 0 was originally released in 2015 for the PlayStation 4 and it saw players taking control of main series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, revealing one of the stories Kiryu found himself in prior to the events in the main
Yakuza series. The way the story unfolds has players switching between Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima—considered Kiryu's main rival throughout the series.
Fight like hell through Tokyo and Osaka as junior yakuza Kiryu and Majima. Take a front row seat to 1980s life in Japan in an experience unlike anything else in video gaming, with uncapped framerates and 4K resolutions. A legend is born.
Yakuza 0 is available on Steam right now.
