As promised, Sony announced today the first big E3 2018 surprise that somehow wasn't leaked by Walmart Canada - Tetris Effect. And what an announcement it was, uniting the legendary creator of Rez and Child of Eden Tetsuya Mizuguchi and a lot of the same developers that worked with him to make Rez Infinite and Lumines, two wonderful puzzle video games based on sound and light patterns.

Supporting PS VR, Tetris Effect is a brand new take on the legendary puzzle game coming to PlayStation 4 this fall. According to Mizuguchi, "Tetris Effect is designed to maximize the magical, scientifically-proven aspect of Tetris that it’s named after." Apparently, researchers discovered that people who play Tetris a lot can start seeing images from the game in real life and the Harvard study mentioned in the trailer voiceover is real.

Everything from this trailer was taken directly from the in-game assets, including models, effects, and animations. You'll have a chance to see the beauty of Tetris Effect displayed in full HD on PS4, or at 4K / 60 frames-per-second on a PS4 Pro, or in mind-blowing 3D thanks to the optional PS VR compatibility. The game will be shown at E3 next week and through the summer, leading up to the launch this fall.
