With the Coronavirus pandemic delaying a bunch of video game projects, PlayStation owners will be ahppy to know that Sucker Punch's long-awaited, and highly anticipated Ghost of Tsushima will not be pushed back, and will be releasing on the 26th of June as intended.
This information comes from the Official PlayStation Magazine, as shared on Ghost of Tsushima's official subreddit by user u/Hunbbel, in which not only developer Sucker Punch reassured fans that the game will still be meeting its original release date, but they also revealed some other interesting details about gameplay.
First things first, Sucker Punch has revealed that the game is drawing inspiration from classic samurai movie director Akira Kurosawa — which is probably the best source to draw inspiration from, as he has made some all-time classics like Seven Samurai and Yojimbo; often regarded as some of the best samurai films ever made.
House of the Flying Daggers, Yumeji, and Fearless composer Shigeru Umebayashi is the one who has produced Ghost of Tsushima's soundtrack, and we actually have been able to listen to some of his music in the trailers Sucker Punch has released so far; again, a perfect choice for the game.
In terms of gameplay itself, Sucker Punch has decided to do away with waypoints, as players will explore the lush world in Ghost of Tsushima by making use of landmarks and their knowledge of it; allowing for an even more immersive, and realistic experience.
Where things will get a little bit more complicated is when players are faced with a horde of enemies. Luckily, Jin —the game's main character — is armed with a wide variety of weapons that go from sticky boms and fire arrows to the samurai's staple weapon: the deadly katana.
As a proper samurai, Jin has been trained in the ways of the sword. By making use of some quick iaijutsu strikes, Jin will be able to end fights in just the one precise cut; much like real sword fights in feudal Japan. If combat isn't your cup of tea, you can also opt to snak up on enemies and traverse enemy camps thanks to a handy grappling hook.
From a graphics standpoint, Sucker Punch also reveals tht they have decided to focus on mud, blood, and steel, and that all of these look amazing in Ghost of Tsushima; something that we can all agree on just by looking at the footage shown in the game's many trailers.
All in all, it looks like Ghost of Tsushima will be one of Sucker Punch's better games to date. If what the developer reassures is true, players will finally be able to test the game for themselves when it finally launches, exclusively for the PlayStation 4, on the 26th of June.
In 1274, the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the Japanese island of Tsushima and slaughters its legendary samurai defenders. Jin Sakai is one of the last survivors of a noble samurai clan. To combat his overwhelming foes, he must pioneer deadly new fighting techniques--the way of The Ghost--and wage an unconventional war for the people of Japan.
Ghost of Tsushima is expected to release exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on the 26th of June.
