Since Palworld was first released back in January via Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview, there was hope that the monster-taming action-adventure game would come to PlayStation at some point. In March, Pocketpair CEO and game director Takuro Mizobe had previously hinted that the company was in talks to bring it to more platforms, but nothing official has been announced.
However, a recent tweet from Palworld community manager Bucky seemingly suggests that the popular monster-collecting game is coming to PlayStation.
In the tweet, Bucky posted Palworld with black, green, and white emoji hearts. These colors are typically associated with the Xbox brand, the only console that the game is available on. It was also available on PC via Steam Early Acccess.
“I want to add more hearts, but not sure what colour would fit…hmm…how about…” Bucky wrote before adding a blue heart. Blue is the primary branding color for PlayStation.
"Looks good I think!" he added with the eyes emoji, suggesting PlayStation gamers should keep an eye out for a possible announcement soon.
Released in January of this year, Palworld has become one of this year's biggest surprise hits. Drawing comparisons to Nintendo's Pokemon franchise, Palworld is set in an open world populated by monster-like creatures called "Pals." Players can battle and capture these creatures which, in turn, can be used for base building, traversal, and combat.
Palworld became an instant hit, selling eight million units in just its first six days of early access. It reached over two million concurrent players on Steam, making it the second-highest-played game of all time. By February 2024, the game had sold over 15 million units.
These are some impressive numbers considering the game still isn't available on two of the most popular gaming consoles of this generation, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Based on this tweet though, it sounds like it's only a matter of time before it arrives on the former.
Palworld continues to receive regular updates with features such as PvP modes, guild raids, and cross-server Pal trading planned for future updates. In the meantime, Pocketpair is getting ready to release the game's first major expansion, which is due out on June 27th.
The highly anticipated summer update, titled the "Sakurajima Update," will introduce a new island heavily inspired by Japan, complete with cherry blossom trees and torii gates. The new island will, of course, feature all-new pals to battle and capture, a new raid and hard-mode bosses, expanded base building, a new level cap, and more.
Palworld is technically not free-to-play, as it costs $29.99 on Steam or Xbox; however, it is available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or Game Pass for Pc. So those who are subscribed to either service can technically download and play it without having to pay full price.
