Creative Director for
God of War, Cory Barlog, talks about the Norse mythology, the world this adventure is taking place in, and about incorporating these elements into the story.
"
Norse myth provided that sense of a lived-in world", Says Barlog. "
It got us away from the pristine feeling of Greek mythology and more of this feeling of, like, living moment to moment in this very unforgiving , very harsh, very isolated world that is very much tactile and easy to relate to."
Barlog mentions how they incorporated this world and its mythology into the narrative so that the characters could get the most out of it.
"
When I started reading more about the mythology, the interesting aspects were...most of it was about how we interact. These sort of human lessons, absolutely living every single moment of like like the world is going to end...because to them it is."
His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive…And teach his son to do the same. This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series—satisfying combat; breathtaking scale; and a powerful narrative—and fuses them anew.
God of War will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 4 when it releases on the 20th of April.
