Santa Monica Studio's new take on the God of War series has been getting a lot of positive attention lately, even more so now that God of War(2018) has managed to win Game of the Year at the 2019 DICE Awards.

At this point, if there's anyone who still hasn't heard about Santa Monica's new God of War, must have been living under a rock for the past 2 years or so. The new game was announced during the E3 in 2016, and almost instantly became a hot topic amongst fans of the series, as well as video game aficionados in general.

Santa Monica Studio was planning on soft-rebooting the game in a way that didn't alienate long-time fans of the series, but managed to bring in a new audience. The way the studio approached this was by fleshing out Kratos, a character that even hardcore fans of the God of War series agree wasn't their favourite character.

The new God of War managed to give Kratos more depth than anyone could've imagined, making him an interesting, and even relatable character. Proper character development coupled with a simple — but emotional — story, managed to make God of War  last year's Game of the Year at The Game Awards.

A week ago, we found out that Santa Monica Studio's God of War was also getting a bunch of nominations for the DICE 2019 Awards; one of them being in the Game of the Year category, amongst other — equally-important — categories.

As to be expected, God of War also managed to win this year's DICE Awards' Game of the Year; further proving that Santa Monica Studio has done a wonderful job reinventing a series that many thought was getting somewhat stale. Our hats are — once again — off to you, Santa Monica Studio.

His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive…And teach his son to do the same. This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series—satisfying combat; breathtaking scale; and a powerful narrative—and fuses them anew.

God of War is currently available for the PlayStation 4.
