Naughty Dog and PlayStation hosted a special State of Play presentation that focused entirely on the highly anticipateds The Last of Us Part II, and there are a lot of things to go over, so let's not waste any more time and let's get this show on the road.
First things first, although we already know this, the game picks up some time after events of the first game. Ellie is now 19 and has settled in a town where she's trying to find happiness, but a traumatising event sees her setting out on a new quest looking for retribution.
According to Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann, the story in The Last of Us Part II spans multiple seasons and climates, all of which look strikingly beautiful thanks to the developer's brand-new engine.
This presentation has also introduced players to the new factions that Ellie will have to combat throughout the game, but humans won't be the only enemies players will have to fight against, since infected creatures are obviously making a comeback; so players will have to take advantage of Ellie's agility to survive.
Much like in the first game, allies will help Ellie take down enemies. Likewise, crafting is also making a comeback, so players will be able to craft new weapons or even enhance them in order to make them more effective against any attackers that come their way.
This special State of Play presentation ends with footage of a never-before-seen gameplay sequence from The Last of Us Part II, which gives players an even better idea of what to expect once the game finally hits store shelves on Friday the 19th of June — and seemingly teases the return of a character from previous games.
Have a look:
Five years after their dangerous journey across the post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have settled down in Jackson, Wyoming. Living amongst a thriving community of survivors has allowed them peace and stability, despite the constant threat of the infected and other, more desperate survivors. When a violent event disrupts that peace, Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to carry out justice and find closure. As she hunts those responsible one by one, she is confronted with the devastating physical and emotional repercussions of her actions.
The Last of Us Part II is expected to release exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on the 19th of June.
