According to Sony Bend, the apocalyptic game's developers, it will take a total of thirty hours to complete Days Gone - excluding side missions and the like. "The golden path is going to take you about 30 hours, but it’s going to take you a lot longer than that because things are going to happen to you along the way depending on how careful you are and how much you pay attention," the studio were quoted as saying last year.
Thanks to a new report by GameReactor, we now know that approximately six hours of that thirty will be dedicated to watching cutscenes. This can be translated as a fifth or 20% of the overall golden path, while the other 80% will presumably be dedicated to actual gameplay.
The ratio of gameplay to cutscenes in a game has always proven controversial among players. Many staunchly believe that the overwhelming majority of a game should be dedicated to actually playing it. However, there are those who are indifferent and don't mind sitting back and essentially watching a pre-rendered movie play out.
It's certainly a divisive and subjective topic. 4:1 is by no means the worst gameplay-cutscene ratio we've seen, but it's far from the best. We'll just have to wait until April 26th to see how it's received by players.
Days Gone is set to release on April 26th, 2019 exclusively on PlayStation 4.
