The owners of Xbox One have their State of Decay 2, and Sony is slowly revealing some juicy details about their zombie apocalypse Days Gone. The game is currently being developed by SCE Bend Studio, the creators of Resistance: Retribution, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and the Syphon Filter series. You can learn more about the zombie game in the latest Game Informer issue and down below.

The first plans to make Days Gone came up immediately after the end of the development on Golden Abyss five years ago, and the game is being made by more than 100 developers as the team's size has doubled since 2016. Just like in The Last of Us, the action picks up several years after a pandemic that has ravaged the US, changing its citizens into zomb... "infected" as the game calls them.

The main protagonist is named Deacon, he has a mercenary friend Boozer and stealing his stuff will make him upset, which will affect your relationship. Players will try to survive in the hostile environment and you won't have to find a cure for the disease. Days Gone will also feature larger towns and you will have to clear out locations to unlock the fast travel option. Deacon will use shotguns, sniper rifles, Molotov cocktails, pistols, LMGs, grenades, napalm and his stamina, health, time slowdown will be upgradable.

Deacon is the enforcer of a biker club called the Mongrels and his bike is completely upgradeable with cosmetic upgrades such as paint jobs and you can increase fuel efficiency and durability, and even swap out tires. Many flashbacks will focus on spotlighting Deacon’s past and he has a "survival vision" which highlights items of interest, Assassin's Creed's style. Just like in that series, Days Gone will give you a chance to climb radio towers. The zombie hordes need to eat, drink, and sleep, and a horde of 300 zombies is just a "baby horde".

Check out Days Gone's first hour with creative director John Garvin and director Jeff Ross' notes:

Set in the beautiful, volcanic scarred high-desert of the Pacific Northwest, Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game where you play as Deacon St. John, a Drifter and bounty hunter who would rather risk the dangers of the broken road than live in one of the “safe” wilderness encampments.

Days Gone will be released in 2019, exclusively on PlayStation 4.
