While PlayStation 4 fans will have a chance to play some high-profile exclusives this year (such as Media Molecule’s
Dreams and Sega's
Judgement),
Days Gone is shaping up to be Sony's biggest gaming release of 2019 – as the Bend Studio-created zombie sandbox finally debuts this Friday.
In
Days Gone, you play as Deacon St. John, a sole survivor who is forced to face undead armies of different sizes, starting with smaller groups of 50 beasts, leading to "proper" hordes of over 500 zombies. As a reminder, the
Gone universe has been zombified in the wake of a fatal zombie outbreak that has ravaged the US (and possibly the rest of the world), turning its citizens into the Freakers, feral animals that have needs, habits, and behaviors that Deacon must adjust to.
To stand a chance against those uneven odds, Deacon will use an array of weapons, including shotguns, sniper rifles, napalm, and Molotov cocktails, turning the core gameplay into a deadly game of hide-and-seek – but sometimes killing monsters won't be the best option, as the main protagonist can try to use the hungry armies against his human opponents, forcing those two groups to fight each other.
The Game Informer crew has released over 30 minutes of brand-new gameplay footage from
Days Gone, putting the spotlight on the most important gameplay features, brutal universe, and zombies – hordes of them. Be sure to take a closer look at
Days Gone ahead of its Friday premiere down below:
At its core, Days Gone is about survivors and what makes them human: desperation, loss, madness, betrayal, friendship, brotherhood, regret, love—and hope. It's about how, even when confronted with such enormous tragedy, hope never dies. Play as Deacon St. John, a bounty hunter facing a brutal struggle for survival while searching for a reason to live.
Days Gone will be available for PlayStation 4 on April 26, 2019.
