The Next Generation Of PlayStation & Xbox Consoles Will Be Unveiled During E3 2020, Says Industry Analyst
Well-known indusrty analyst Lewis Ward recently shared his prediction that the ninth generation of consoles will be unveiled during next year's E3 conference. Find out more...
It's a certainty that the next generation of consoles is coming, we're just not certain exactly when; according to IDC analyst Lewis Ward, the next generation of PlayStation and Xbox will begin during E3 of next year.
There have been rumours aplenty regarding the ninth generation of consoles - some even pointing to a reveal during this year's E3 conference - though that's almost certaintly not going to happen given that Sony will be absent.
A couple of those rumours have supposed that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox "Scarlett" will take on a more Nintendo Switch-like approach. But according to Ward, this won't be the case, they'll just be sticking with the traditional console design with disc-drives.
According to Ward, the next generation won't be with us until 2021, but they will be unveiled next year. GamingBolt asked whether Ward thought the consoles would be revealed this year, here's what he had to say:
Not if 2019 gets a modest hardware refresh, as I expect from Microsoft and Sony, and sees a middle-of-the-road slate of AAA exclusives. If the plan is to give this assumed hardware refresh two years of runway before next-gen systems arrive, then 2020’s E3 is when Sony and Microsoft will be unveiling their new systems.
What do you think of what Ward had to say? Do you concur with his predictions?
