The Cyberpunk Trading Card Game has not even finished rolling out its first set, and its second one is already on the way. Developer WeirdCo has announced Edgerunners: Burn Bright, the game's first expansion, which brings characters, weapons, cyberware, and scenes from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners to the tabletop next spring.
The set was revealed during WeirdCo's Creator Invitational livestream yesterday (October 20th), and the official Cyberpunk TCG account shared the first key art shortly after.
The key art shows Lucy walking away from the camera in David's oversized yellow jacket, heading toward what looks like a launch platform, with the set's logo built around a scorched moon. Anyone who has watched the first season of Edgerunners will understand exactly why the line "We're going to the moon, together" hits so hard.
What Edgerunners: Burn Bright Adds
According to WeirdCo, Edgerunners: Burn Bright builds on the foundation laid by the first set, Welcome to Night City. Players will be able to expand their existing crews with new Legends and Units, or build entirely new decks made up of their favorite Edgerunners characters. The set will also add new competitive strategies, a lot of new chrome, and brand new mechanics that the team plans to reveal over the coming months.
Collectors have something to look forward to as well. Booster packs will feature artwork in the anime's style across foil and textured treatments, and WeirdCo has confirmed an all-new chase rarity that will be revealed at a later date.
Elliot Cook, WeirdCo's co-founder, said the team wants to raise the bar after the response to the first set. "The community reception to Cyberpunk TCG has been nothing short of incredible so far, so we want to deliver something even more exciting with Set 2. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners provides us so many opportunities to evolve this game in meaningful ways, both mechanically and artistically, and we can't wait to share that with players."
First Cards Revealed
A few early art reveals have already given fans an idea of what to expect. One card, Caught in the Crossfire, revisits the highway shootout from the anime's first episode that leaves David's mother, Gloria Martinez, badly injured. Another shows Adam Smasher in a card titled Story Ends Here, standing over wreckage and bodies. A Gear card called Zhou, Maine's Answer depicts the heavy shotgun carried by Maine, the leader of David's crew.
Release Details
Edgerunners: Burn Bright arrives in hobby stores in Spring 2027. As with the first set, Pre-release tournaments will take place at local game stores one week before the full retail launch, giving players their first chance to open packs and play with the new cards. The set will launch in English and French, with Chinese language support coming later. WeirdCo says booster packs, booster displays, and Pre-release kits will be sold through specialist hobby stores.
WeirdCo has a full schedule of art and card reveals lined up between now and launch. Fans can follow the official Cyberpunk TCG social channels or catch the upcoming Edgerunner Open Regional tournament broadcasts on Twitch and YouTube for previews and spoilers.
Perfect Timing For Edgerunners Fans
The announcement landed on the same day that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered on Netflix. As we covered ahead of its release, the new season from TRIGGER and CD PROJEKT RED is a standalone 10-episode story with a brand new cast. Burn Bright focuses on characters and moments from the original series, though it would not be surprising to see the new crew get cards of their own down the line.
The Cyberpunk TCG itself has been a huge success story so far. It came out of a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign before its global launch, and players are only now getting their first taste of the game at Welcome to Night City Pre-release events at local game stores around the world.
Would you rather see Burn Bright focus on David and Lucy's crew from the first season, or should WeirdCo bring in the new cast from Edgerunners 2 as well?
