Eiji Aonuma Reveals That THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: BREATH OF THE WILD 2 Is The Result Of Too Many DLC Ideas

The Legend of Zelda series Producer, Eiji Aonuma, has recently revealed that the Breath of the Wild sequel is the result of the development team having too many ideas for DLC.

Nintendo decided to wrap their E3 presentation with their biggest announcement yet: a teaser trailer that let everyone know a The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel is currently in the works at Nintendo. Needless to say, fans went crazy over the announcement, as Breath of the Wild is regarded one of, if not, the best entries in the series.

As fans watched the teaser trailer during the live stream, a lot of people thought that this was only going to be a new expansion for the game; something that Nintendo is quick to dismiss as the introguing trailer comes to an end. The thing is, however, that fans may not be too wrong about it being DLC, as new information reveals that this is somewhat the case.

While The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel is a brand-new game, through and through, The Legend of Zelda series Producer, Eiji Aonuma, reveals that this sequel came from the development team having too many ideas for downloadable content.

In a recent interview with Kotaku, Aonuma revealed that they saw the potential of downloadable content being added to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but that it wasn't enough when they considered the amount of content they actually wanted to add.

"When we released the DLC for Breath of the Wild, we realized that this is a great way to add more elements to the same world. But when it comes down to technical things, DLC is pretty much data—you’re adding data to a preexisting title. And so when we wanted to add bigger changes, DLC is not enough, and that’s why we thought maybe a sequel would be a good fit."

Aonuma, however, reveals that development team hadn't considered making a sequel; thinking that they could add all of their ideas in the form of DLC for Breath of the Wild, which eventually led to them opting to make a proper sequel instead.

"Initially we were thinking of just DLC ideas, but then we had a lot of ideas and we said: 'this is too many ideas, let’s just make one new game and start from scratch.'"

This isn't the first time that Eiji Aonuma has decided to make a brand-new game using already existing assets from another title. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask was mainly ideas that the team had for a The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time expansion on the Nintendo 64DD; and the result was phenomenal, even when the team only had a year to complete the game.



The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel is currently in the works.
