A fresh leak has surfaced that could give Halo fans a much clearer timeline for Halo Campaign Evolved, the full remake of the original 2001 Halo: Combat Evolved campaign. According to well-known Halo dataminer grunt.api, the game is slated to enter Early Access on July 23, 2026, with the full official release following shortly after on July 28, 2026.
The information was shared in a cryptic Twitter post containing two mathematical equations:
- EA: (18 × 7 × (MMXX + VI) mod 31) + 1
- OR: (8 × 7 × (MMXX + VI) mod 31) + 1
Community members quickly solved the equations, interpreting “EA” as Early Access and “OR” as Official Release. The calculations consistently point to the two late-July dates. While grunt.api did not explicitly name the game, the context of recent Halo Campaign Evolved rumors and the leaker’s solid track record have led most fans to connect the dots.
First revealed at the Halo World Championships in October 2025, the project is a ground-up remake of the original campaign using Unreal Engine 5. Key upgrades include:
- High-definition 4K visuals and improved lighting
- Additional voiced dialogue and motion-capture work
- Expanded weapon selection
- Better Movement
- Three brand-new prequel missions focusing on Master Chief and Avery Johnson’s early days
Recent reports from insiders have claimed the game is already “playable from start to finish,” including the new prequel levels, which has fueled speculation that a 2026 release is realistic. Multiple teams are reportedly involved, with Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) leading development and Abstraction Games (known for work on Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Mass Effect Legendary Edition) providing support.
The rumored July window would place the game in the middle of summer 2026, potentially aligning with or following the Xbox Games Showcase expected in early June. A five-day Early Access period would allow players to experience the campaign slightly ahead of the full launch while giving the team final feedback and polishing time.
The relatively near-term dates have generated mixed reactions. Many fans are excited at the prospect of revisiting the classic story with modern visuals and new content so soon. Others, however, have expressed skepticism about whether the game can be properly polished in time, especially given the history of ambitious Halo projects.
The leak also appears to undermine earlier shadow-drop theories tied to a rumored Xbox-Fanta promotional partnership. Some fans had speculated that QR codes on Fanta bottles could unlock in-game rewards for a surprise launch immediately after the June showcase. A structured Early Access period would make a true shadow drop unlikely.
No official confirmation has come from Xbox Game Studios or Halo Studios yet. If the leaked dates hold, fans can reasonably expect more concrete information including a gameplay trailer or release date announcement during the Xbox Games Showcase in June.
In the meantime, the community continues to speculate about additional features, performance targets across platforms (including PlayStation 5), and whether the remake will include any quality-of-life improvements or modern gameplay tweaks beyond visuals and the new missions.
For longtime Halo fans, the possibility of stepping back into the boots of Master Chief this summer feels both exciting and almost too good to be true after years of waiting. Whether the July dates prove accurate or shift slightly, the momentum behind Halo Campaign Evolved suggests the remake is much closer than many expected.
