Originally set to be released in 2016,
Crackdown 3 was delayed a number of times. As of late 2018 the game is expected to be released in early 2019. The title was announced at E3 over 4 years ago and since that reveal the British developers from Reagent Games and Sumo Digital have left the project, alongside the explosive series creator David Jones who decided to end his involvement in the game.
According to the recent update from Phil Spencer, the well-known current executive vice-president of Gaming at Microsoft, he's had a chance to check out the full build of the sandbox and called the progress on the game "
nice," but there's still "
more work to do." It seems that the game is pretty fun as his "
agent felt like the wrecking machine," so the fans of the original
Crackdown will be pleased.
Crackdown 3 is currently being made by Cloudgine, the company that specializes on cloud computing to Epic's Unreal Engine, Ruffian Games, the creators of
Crackdown 2 who are working on multiplayer, and finally Sumo Digital that's developing the single-player campaign. It sounds like The Big M is now using their own cloud technology to power the Wrecking Zone online mode in
Crackdown 3.
Enter Crackdown 3’s sandbox of mayhem and destruction and become a Super-Powered Agent dedicated to Justice by any means necessary. Explore the heights of a dangerous futuristic city, cut through gang-infested streets in a transforming vehicle, and wield amazing abilities to dismantle a ruthless criminal empire. Developed by original creator Dave Jones, Crackdown 3 will deliver cooperative chaos and an all-new multiplayer mode where destruction is your ultimate weapon against friends and rivals online. Whether you’re playing the all-new Campaign or enjoying a truly revolutionary competitive experience, you’ll never look at open-world gaming the same way again.
Crackdown 3 will be released for Xbox One and PC in 2019.
