Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was announced back in May. However, even before then there were rumours that it would include a battle royale mode.
This is because battle royales are all the rage in the gaming industry at the moment and because the previous instalment in the first-person shooter series,
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, included one by the name of Blackout.
The game's multiplayer mode was recently showed off and a battle royale mode was nowhere to be seen. Joe Cecot,
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's multiplayer design director, recently did an interview with
IGN in which he commented on the rumours that the game would feature a battle royale.
Based on what Cecot had to say, it sounds as if Infinity Ward never even considered including one but that doesn't mean one can't be added in the future. For the time being, the studio are focused on perfecting
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's general multiplayer.
"[Infinity Ward has] big fans of battle royale. We’re excited for large player counts and things like that, but right now we’re really focused on core multiplayer," Cecot said.
"We really focused on Modern Warfare, authentic and gritty, realistic weapons, and it’s a different experience. It’s really...just about pulling back to Modern Warfare and keeping that pure."
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 25th, 2019.
