Just last week, Microsoft finally launched the long-awaited, and highly anticipated Xbox Series X|S, kickstarting the new generation of consoles, and giving players the chpoice to go for the main console(Series X) or the entry-level, albeit as equally capable Xbox Series S.
Microsoft giving players two different versions of a next-gen console, especially at launch, is actually a first for the company. The fact that the Xbox Series X|S didn't release with a Halo game is also a first, and one of the reasons why some believed this could negatively affect sales.
Fortunately, the lack of first-party titles on the Xbox Series X|S has not affected sales in the slightest. As a matter of fact, Microsoft's Vice President of Gaming Phil Spencer has recently revealed that the Xbox Series X|S is the largest launch in the history of the Xbox brand.
Phil Spencer didn't reveal exactly how many units were sold, but this is still huge for Microsoft, which could predict that the future of the Xbox Series X|S is, indeed, brighter than its predecessors; from a commercial standpoint, at least.
Just recently, Video Games Chronicle has reported that the Xbox Series X|S has had the biggest console launch in the United Kingdom; thus reaching yet another milestone.
This information comes from publishers that spoke to Video Games Chronicle, who reveal that the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S have sold around 155,000 consoles on launch day in the United Kingdom. For further reference, the previous record was held by the Xbox One, which had managed to sell 150,000 copies on launch day back in November of 2013.
While the Xbox Series X|S has had quite the launch in the United Kingdom, it still isn't enough to beat the record that Sony's PlayStation 4 set in the United Kingdom, which sold a staggering 250,000 units within 48 hours after it was released; still considered the biggest launch for a home console in United Kingdom history.
Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are currently available.
