Remedy Entertainment Was Working On ALAN WAKE 2 Years Ago But It "Just Didn’t Pan Out"

According to Remedy Entertainment's Communications Manager Thomas Puha, the Finnish studio was trying to make a full-blown sequel to 2010's Alan Wake, but it "just didn’t pan out, so there’s nothing..."

Between the original launch of 2010's Alan Wake and 2019, Remedy Entertainment has managed to launch only one major title, Quantum Break, but it doesn't mean that the original creators of Max Payne have been wasting their time lately. In fact, Remedy’s upcoming Control will debut in August, while we reportedly were really close to getting a proper sequel to Wake just a couple of years ago.

In a recent interview with VG247, Remedy Entertainment's Communications Manager Thomas Puha revealed that the developers "were working on Alan Wake 2 years ago and it just didn’t pan out, so there’s nothing – we’re just booked solid for the next couple of years, really,” Puha explained.

We do own the Alan Wake IP, but it’s never quite as simple as that, but yeah, we do own it,” Puha added. Considering that Alan Wake was initially released for Xbox 360 by Microsoft, the American company may have a say in greenlighting new entries in the main series.

What's arguably more interesting, Puha's statement that the studio is "booked solid for the next couple of years," suggests that studio may have some ambitious post-launch plans for Control, the studio's unique take on the so-called metroidvania genre that will allow you to freely explore a deeply disturbing brutalist building, use some extraordinary superpowers, and face a dangerous alien threat.

After a secretive agency in New York is invaded by an otherworldly threat, you become the new Director struggling to regain Control. This supernatural third-person action-adventure game will challenge you to master a combination of supernatural abilities, modifiable loadouts and reactive environments, while fighting through a deep and unpredictable world.

Control is coming to PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on August 27, 2019.
