Back in August of this year, independent developer Navegante Games confirmed that
Greak: Memories of Azur — their brand-new, and stylish side-scrolling title — was officially going to be releasing on the Nintendo Switch at some point
in 2020.
One of the things that are very noticeable about the game is its unique and colourful art style, which gives
Greak: Memories of Azur an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere that reminds us of Team Cherry's critically acclaimed
Hollow Knight.
In a recent interview, Co-creator and Programmer of
Greak: Memories of Azur Rodrigo Fernandez has revealed some very interesting details about the game, while also revealing that some people has already told him that the game looks strikingly similar to
Hollow Knight; something he proudly takes as a compliment.
When asked specifically about
Greak: Memories of Azur feeling somewhat similar to
Hollow Knight, in both gameplay and art style, Fernandez reveals that they do get compared to Team Cherry's Metroidvania a lot, but their game is not necessarily similar.
"
The game does have a metroidvania style of world layout, but you will be able to progress through the game by earning full characters instead of single abilities," explained Fernandez while also adding that, from an art style standpoint, they actually draw inspiration from Ubisoft's
Child of Light.
"
We get compared to Hollow Knight a lot which is very flattering (Hollow knight is great! ) but our influences for art are more along Child of Light and for gameplay is more close to an old game called The Lost Vikings. We do look up to Hollow Knight as a measurement on how the game should feel quality-wise."
Greak: Memories of Azur still doesn't have an official release date, but the game sure looks promising from the fantastic trailer alone — which gracefully shows off the attention to detail and care that the developers have put into the game.
Greak: Memories of Azur is a side scrolling single-player game with traditional hand drawn animation. In this adventure, the player will take the role of three siblings: Greak, Adara and Raydel; whom you will need to guide through the lands of Azur. They will be able to alternate control between them at any moment and use their unique abilities to escape from the Urlag invasion.
Greak: Memories of Azur is expected to release for the Nintendo Switch in 2020.
