Jim Carrey was recently at the Summer TCA press tour to promote his upcoming Showtime TV series, Kidding. However, he also touched on a few other subjects, including his upcoming turn as iconic video game villain, Dr. Robotonik in Paramount's live-action/cgi Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
Obviously, the titular hedgehog will be cgi but longtime video game veterans tracking the project were interested in learning about how Robotnik would be brought to life.
When asked about this at the TCA, Carrey revealed that his role would be "live-action", and that his performance would be "magic, mixed with desperation."
Sonic the Hedgehog is currently scheduled to hit theater next year on November 15, 2019. In addition to Carrey, the film also stars James Marsden and Tika Sumpter. After a number of animated shorts, Jeff Fowler will be making his debut as a feature-length film director.
