It has almost been an entire decade since Grand Theft Auto V released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. An entire console generation passed by without a new entry in the popular open-world third-person shooter series, though Rockstar Games did release Red Dead Redemption 2 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Nonetheless, it seems like things are finally in motion in regards to Grand Theft Auto VI. Much to the chagrin of anticipated Grand Theft Auto fans, development on the instalment seemingly only began in April 2020, as outlined in this report. Then, it was also said that Grand Theft Auto VI would be the Rockstar Games' next release. That lines up with this new claim from a reputable insider.
According to AccountNGT, an insider best known for leaking Star Wars Eclipse content before it was officially announced during the Game Awards last month as well as the reveal trailer of a recent Grand Theft Auto: Online update, claims that Grand Theft Auto VI won't only be Rockstar Games' next release but it will be the studio's only release for the current console generation.
Those expecting a sequel to Bully or a third Red Dead Redemption game will should be prepared to wait a long while in that case as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S generation has essentially only just begun. These consoles only debuted just over a year ago, meaning there's almost certainly several more to go until the next generation is even considered.
Gone are the days of Rockstar Games releasing at least a single title every year.
