Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most anticipated games in development right now. When it is released next year, it will undoubtedly sell millions of copies. But if you plan on playing the game, you'll need a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S.
When Rockstar officially announced GTA 6 in December of last year, the developer confirmed it was only launching for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There has been no announcement regarding a PC release.
Naturally, the lack of announcement has resulted in plenty of speculation over whether or not the biggest game of 2025 will be coming to PC — either at launch or at some point afterward. If Rockstar or parent company Take-Two Interactive is eventually planning on releasing the game on PC, why haven't they announced it already? At least give PC gamers some peace of mind.
During an interview at TD Cowen conference last week (transcribed by VGC), Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelneck was asked about the lack of announcement for a PC release of GTA 6. While he didn't reveal any specific plans, he did suggest that an announcement could come at some point.
“Well, the lack of an announcement is not something that could be set in stone as near as I could tell, because the only thing that happens after the lack of an announcement is an announcement, I suppose, or a continuing lack of an announcement, I guess that could happen too. It doesn’t seem to me that either would be set in stone.
“But Rockstar has an approach to platforms which we’ve seen before, and they will make more announcements in due time. I do believe that the right strategy for our business is to be where the consumer is, and historically what this company has done is address consumers anywhere they are, on any platform that makes sense, over time.”
This feels like a roundabout way to say expect an announcement from Rockstar regarding a PC release at some point. While nothing official has been revealed yet, one only needs to look at Rockstar's past releases for a clue. The developer has a history of launching games for the console first before bringing them to PC at a later date.
Grand Theft Auto 4, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 all launched on consoles before coming to PC afterward. GTA 5 was released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 before coming to PS4 and Xbox One in November of the following year. The PC version didn't arrive until April 2015.
Red Dead Redemption 2, meanwhile, launched for PS4 and Xbox One in October 2018 before coming to PC in November 2019.
Looking at Rockstar's track record, if GTA 6 launches in 2025 as planned, then it could come to PC by 2026.
