We've yet to see a single good video game movie (sorry Warcraft and Assassin's Creed), but could Just Cause buck the trend? Well, Deadline has revealed today that Aquaman himself Jason Momoa (Justice League) has signed up to take on the lead role of Rico Rodriguez, the Agency operative who will be getting himself into all manner of crazy action set pieces if the games are any indication.
John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) has penned the screenplay for director Brad Peyton (San Andreas). He's currently working on Rampage - another video game movie - but teamed up with Momoa for Netflix series Frontier. Just Cause plot details are being kept under wraps, but the trade adds that it will, "deal with Rico’s crisis of conscience while on a mission."
While this is far from the biggest or most well-known video game franchise, it definitely has a lot of cinematic potential. Studios clearly have a lot of faith in Momoa as a leading man following Justice League and Aquaman, and it will be interesting to see how he fares here. What do you guys think?
