Last week, rumours about BioWare and Electronic Arts developing a "Mass Effect Trilogy Remastered" collection made their way online. These rumours actually came from Portuguese retailer GamingReplay, who listed the alleged collection on their website and immediately took it down.
In the past, retailers have unofficially revealed games before the developers get to make the announcement, well, official, so GamingReplay accidentally listing Mass Effect Trilogy Remastered on their website had a pretty good chance to end up being legitimate.
Over the course of the week, VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb spilled the beans and revealed that this Mass Effect Trilogy Remastered game was, indeed, in the works, but that it was called "Mass Effect Legendary Edition", and would not be launching for the Nintendo Switch, as the Portuguese retailer initially revealed.
Some new information, which has actually been shared by Jeff Grubb again, seemingly suggests that Electronic Arts and BioWare will not be launching the alleged Mass Effect Legendary Edition this year, as the developer wants more time to polish the first Mass Effect game.
According to Grubb, BioWare and Electronic Arts initially intended to both announce and release Mass Effect Legendary Edition in October; due to the pandemic, however, they were forced to push the game back, although this was mostly attributed to the first Mass Effect needing more work. Grubb reveals that the developers are now aiming for an early 2021 release.
Another bit of information that Grubb has shared is that Electronic Arts has no plans to include Mass Effect 3's multiplayer in the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which is likely something that will upset some fans. With all of this said, all of this should still be considered a rumour until Electronic Arts and BioWare officially confirm the existence of this alleged collection.
