According To Rockstar, RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 Is A 65-Hour Title As Big Chunks Of The Game Have Been Dumped

In a recent interview, producer and writer at Rockstar Dan Houser has revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 is not a short title as developers were working 100-hour weeks several times in 2018 to polish the game!

Red Dead Redemption 2 is almost here as the Vulture crew recently had a chance to chat with Dan Houser, vice president of creativity for Rockstar Games and writer of almost all of the titles in the Grand Theft Auto series. During the interview, Houser has revealed many juicy details regarding the upcoming juggernaut of a game and the future of Rockstar Games - including the possibility of RDR3.

According to Houser, the Rockstar crew was working 100-hour weeks several times in 2018. Reportedly, the finished game includes 300,000 animations, 500,000 lines of dialogue, and many more lines of code. The effort paid off as it will take the player up to 65 hours to finish only the story campaign. As a reminder, the sequel will feature a multiplayer component, but it won't be ready at launch.

What's possibly worrying, Rockstar recently dumped a big chunk of the main quest. At one point, protagonist Arthur Morgan had two love interests, but “we decided one of them didn’t work,” said Dan. And whole missions were removed because “they were never going to work technically or be quite slick enough, or they felt superfluous. We removed a mission on a train where you had to deal with bounty hunters, because it was fun at first, but then it wasn’t. This part of the process is always about compromise and horse trading. Everyone always loses bits of the game they love.”

Regarding the future of the Red Dead franchise (which launched in 2004 with Red Dead Revolver, so RDR2 is technically the third game in the series), Houser revealed that “if this one does well enough and we think we have other interesting things to say” we may get Red Dead Redemption 3. But you should cool your jets as Rockstar's next game is reportedly the sequel of one naughty game - Bully.

America, 1899. The end of the wild west era has begun as lawmen hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed. After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will be available on October 26, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
