As promised, Rockstar released a brand new trailer for their highly-anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2 today. But maybe even more importantly, the studio behind the Grand Theft Auto series has finally revealed some new, juicy details about the basic plot of the upcoming western, and it looks like RDR2 will serve as a prequel to the first Red Dead Redemption and also a sequel to Red Dead Revolver.
The Van der Linde gang that played a pivotal role in Red Dead Redemption's main storyline will officially return in the sequel, as the players will play as gangster Arthur Morgan, a member of Dutch's gang.
According to the new synopsis, our brave protagonist will be forced to make many hard and important choices "after a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him."
The trailer also finally confirms that Red Dead Redemption's (anti)hero John Marston will make an appearance, and it looks like we will have a chance to see the origin of his nasty scars. In the last Red Dead game, Marston was coerced into tracking down members of the Van der Linde gang he was once a part of. It's too early to tell exactly what the plot will be, but it looks like we'll see how Marston fell out of the gang, but from a fresh perspective. Be sure to watch this intense trailer down below:
America, 1899. The end of the wild west era has begun as lawmen hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will be available on October 26th on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
