Developer nDreams is celebrating the theatrical release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire with a free content update in Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord on PlayStation VR2 and Meta Quest.
The new content based on the film will come to the game in a free update on March 28th. The update will feature five new narrative-infused missions that see you working as a team for Dr. Ray Stantz (actually played by Dan Aykroyd in the game) to defeat the villainous Garraka.
Aykroyd actually worked with nDreams in the recent Slimer Hunt update that was released back in January. With the Frozen Empire mission pack, players will visit New York City where they will be briefed by Ray in the iconic Ghostbusters firehouse.
NDreams explained that the layout of the inside of the firehouse will be as authentic as possible to the one in the movie, with the team even visiting the Frozen Empire movie set to ensure its accuracy.
Perhaps the most exciting part of this update -- players will finally be able to wield the original proton packs from the 1984 movie. And lastly, to help deal with this new threat, Lars will deliver a brand new piece of ghostbusting equipment called the Heat Beam.
Released last year, Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord is actually set in San Francisco, so visiting New York City in this update will be a pleasant treat for fans of the franchise.
The game follows a new team of Ghostbusters working together th estop the Ghost Lord. You actually begin the game as a courier In the game, you start off as a courier answering an ad to retrieve some equipment in the mansion of the late philanthropist Gustav Hookfaber. Long story short, a demon inadvertently gets released in the city and you get caught up in the ghost hunt. And now you're headed to New York to take on Garraka.
Having dealt with the potentially world-ending threat and becoming fully fledged Bay Area Ghostbusters, you learn there’s a new threat in New York – Garraka, the terrifying ancient demi-god who’s been trapped in an object not unlike one that Hookfaber brought to the Ghostbusters years ago. So, who does Ray call in this moment of need? You!
What secrets does Hookfaber’s past hold? What did he know about trapping ghosts in objects? To solve these mysteries, you’ll head back to San Francisco where you’ll discover that Garraka’s powers have extended through the etheric plane, affecting locations and ghosts in ways that make everything more dangerous! Get ready for icy obstacles blocking your path, essential equipment freezing over, and powerful icy attacks from ghostly enemies.
The Frozen Empire update will add Lars, Podcast and Lucky as playable avatars, and nDreams teases the ability to play an "unexpected role" as well.
Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord costs $29.99 on the Meta Store or PlayStation Store.
