The Hitman franchise was a lot of players' first introductions to the world of stealth and assassination games. However, what makes that franchise so intense is that it is a lot harder than most stealth titles because the goal is to get the cleanest kill over simply completing the mission. As time has progressed, the series has built off that model and grown to a highly competitive multiplayer experience.
Since its release, IO Interactive has been maintaining the essence of what makes Hitman a great franchise. Still, with the added multiplayer gaming ability, it has expanded in ways that couldn't have been done 20 years prior. That is why when the team released the Hitman reboot, it did so well, letting players try to get the most points or most creative kills and seeing if their friends could top them. This new strategy has proven highly successful, with the third title aiming for a 2021 release!
Celebrating 20 years of Hitman, IO Interactive has decided to share a fun tidbit of information with the fans to thank them for their efforts in making this franchise one of the best in gaming. According to their recent blog post, there have been over 70 million lifetime players since the game was first released! With Hitman 3 coming next year, hopefully, that number will shoot past 100 million!
While this trilogy is concluding, this doesn't mean that the Hitman franchise is coming to an end. We would love to hear some of your fondest memories and moments from the franchise in the comments below!
