Earlier this year, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge publisher Dotemu and developer Tribute Games unveiled their next arcade-style beat 'em up: Marvel Cosmic Invasion. The initial trailer revealed a roster of playable characters that includes Captain America, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Storm, Phyla-Vell, Venom, and Nova.
Those won't be your only options, though. Revealed at Summer Game Fest today, She-Hulk and Rocket Raccoon are joining the fray. A trailer highlighting their gameplay was shared as well. True to their comic book counterparts, Rocket relies on an impressive arsenal of weaponry, while She-Hulk makes use of her brute strength.
"Debuting in lush, hand-drawn illustration channeling ‘90s era MARVEL comic books and character designs, She-Hulk and Rocket Racoon unleash unique attacks and abilities while joining the playable roster," the press release teases. "She-Hulk forgoes litigation, grappling and tossing enemies with her gamma-powered might. Rocket Raccoon, a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, commands a mastery of firepower – and thanks to his penchant for sporadically lobbing grenades, he’s MARVEL Cosmic Invasion’s most chaotic fighter yet."
Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a side-scrolling action fighter in which you control a team of two characters, seamlessly switching between them in the heat of battle using the Cosmic Swap system. Each character brings their own unique superpowers and special moves, enabling powerful team combos and high-impact attacks. Players can also collect power-ups and rewards throughout the game.
A lengthier trailer was shared back in March, along with a story synopsis for the game.
In MARVEL Cosmic Invasion the immortal Super Villain Annihilus has launched an unprecedented attack across the galaxy, threatening all life as we know it. Fighters both Earth-born and cosmic must now join forces in a star-spanning adventure against the deadly Annihilation Wave. Brawl through the streets of New York City all the way to the depths of the Negative Zone to foil Annihilus’ vow to spread death across the cosmos.
The official website for the game confirms 15 playable Marvel heroes in the game. With today's reveal, we are now up to nine total characters, which means there are still 6 more to go. Which Marvel heroes do you hope to see featured in the game?
Marvel Cosmic Invasion does not yet have a release date but is expected to be released later this year. The game will be available for PC via Steam, PS4 and PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Presumably, it will come to Nintendo Switch 2 at some point, especially since the system just launched this week.
