Monster Hunter Wilds is officially out today, marking the beginning of your new adventure. The latest installment in the popular action role-playing game takes us to the Forbidden Lands, an uncharted region believed by the Guild to be uninhabited. After discovering a young boy near the border of this mysterious region, the Guild sets off on an expedition to investigate, led by you, the Hunter.
Your journey begins with the character customizer presented at the beginning of the game. It's during this stage where you design what you character looks like, choosing things like gender, hairstyle, facial features, and clothing options. This is also when you'll design the appearance of your Palico.
If you played the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Betas, you can actually import the Character Creator data so you don't have to redo everything. On the Character Creation screen you'll see "Beta Test Data" at the bottom in yellow. The same applies to the Palico data.
But let's say you're starting from scratch. There are a ton of options to choose from, including premade templates and the option to have the game make slight tweaks for you. If you're like me, the sheer number of options can be a bit overwhelming. Thankfully, you aren't completely locked into your choices. You are able to make changes to your character's appearance while playing the actual game. And it's quite simple.
How to change your Hunter and Palico appearance in Monster Hunter Wilds
To change your appearance in Monster Hunter Wilds, all you need to do is enter your tent at your base and select the "Change Appearance" option in the Appearance Menu. You won't be able to change your body or face shape, but you can change the following:
- Hair
- Eyebrow/Eyelash
- Eye Colour
- Mouth
- Facial Hair
- Makeup/Face Paint
- Voice Pitch
- Bearing
- Clothing
- Underclothes
You can also change your Palico appearance. This is done through the same mneu while you're in the tent at any base camp or camp site. Similar to your Hunter, there are some limitations to what you can chage. While you can't change their equipment, you can edit all of the following:
- Pattern
- Long Hair
- Ear Fur Type
- Facial Fur Type
- Marking 1
- Marking 2
- Felyne Language
- Voice Pitch
Keep in mind that your appearance in Monster Hunter Wilds doesn't have any actual impact on the gameplay itself. It's purely cosmetic so don't fret too much.
Monster Hunter Wilds is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
