Warner Bros. Game announced that Agent Smith will be joining the MultiVersus roster next week as part of Season 1: Puns & Villainy. The main antagonist from The Matrix film franchise will be playable in platform fighter starting on July 8th.
Players will be able to unlock Agent Smith for free in the game by simply participating in the season-long "Beat Rifts, Get Ange Smith Free!" event. Players will have to complete boss nodes in the PvE Rifts mode to earn rewards and unlock the new fighter. For those unable to complete the event, Agent Smith will be added to the main roster on July 23 at which point he will be available for purchase.
Agent Smith enters the game as a Bruiser class character with a moveset that reflects his role as a defender of the Matrix. "With staggering speed, uncanny aim, and an insatiable hunger for control, he’s ready to make the Multiverse his playground," Warner Bros. Games teased alongside the release of a new trailer showcasing Agent Smith's gameplay.
Agent Smith not only excels in close-range combat and a variety of weapons, but can also teleport to close the distance with opponents and calling support from another Agent.
Agent Smith joins an already stacked roster of playable fighters in MultiVersus. The free-to-play platform fighter features characters based on many popular Warner Bros. Discovery franchises, from DC to Game of Thrones and more.
The current roster of characters include Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Black Adam, and The Joker (DC); Shaggy and Velma (Scooby-Doo); Bugs Bunny, Tasmanian Devil a.k.a. Taz, and Marvin the Martian (Looney Tunes); Arya Stark (Game of Thrones); Tom & Jerry (Tom and Jerry); Finn the Human, Jake the Dog, and Banana Guard (Adventure Time); Steven Universe and Garnet (Steven Universe); Iron Giant (The Iron Giant), LeBron James (Space Jam: A New Legacy); Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith (Rick and Morty); Gizmo and Stripe (Gremlins); Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th), Reindog (an original creature), and soon Agent Smith (The Matrix).
Agent Smith is the second new fighter to be released in MultiVersus as part of Season 1: Puns & Villainy, which began when the game launched back in late May. Jason Voorhees, the main villain from Friday the 13th, was also technically released as part of Season 1, although he was available at the launch of the game alongside The Joker.
MultiVersus is a free-to-play platform fighter in the same vein as Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. franchise. The game is available to download and play on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One consoles, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), with full cross-play and cross-progression support.
