Soul Edge, or
Soul Blade as known in Western countries, was the very first title in the
SoulCalibur series; releasing in 1995 for Arcade cabinets and later getting a PlayStation port in December of 1996.
Upon releasing on consoles, the game became an instant hint thanks to its tight controls, game design, and setting; which took us all back to the late 16th century. Twenty three years later and we are one day away from getting the long-awaited
SoulCalibur VI, which is the latest entry in the main line series of games.
Not only is
SoulCalibur VI the 6th game in the main line
SoulCalibur series, but it is also a re-telling of the events that took place in
Soul Edge and the original
SoulCalibur games; bringing back some of the classic characters and introducing some new ones. What's even more appealing is that most of these characters look almost exactly the same way they did in the original games. Graphics-wise, there have obviously been some upgrades, but most look almost exactly the same.
Today, IGN has posted a comparison video between
SoulCalibur VI and the original
Soul Edge/Blade, showing us the huge leap in graphics that the series has seen in over 20 years since its inception in 1995—but gameplay is just as good as we remembered it.
Take a look:
SOULCALIBUR VI represents the latest entry in the premier weapons-based, head-to-head fighting series and continues the epic struggle of warriors searching for the legendary Soul Swords. Taking place in the 16th century, revisit the events of the original SOULCALIBUR to uncover hidden truths.
SoulCalibur VI will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on the 19th of October.
