At the moment, with games like Fortnite thriving within the industry - to unprecedented level - Activision is hoping to hop onto the battle-royale bandwagon with their next Call of Duty title.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has ditched the traditional single-player campaign in favour of a battle-royale mode which has been officially dubbed “Blackout" - on top of both the regular multiplayer mode and, of course, zombies.

During the company's most recent financial earnings call, Chief Operating Officer for Activision Coddy Johnson reportedly told investors the new mode has garnered “tremendous interest” from gamers, describing them as “very hungry” for the mode.

We’ve also seen a tremendous interest in the new Blackout mode. We teased earlier this week and we saw overwhelmingly positive response to the trailer we put out. I think the fans are really hungry for it. And we see it also on the playtest that we’re doing, both with our own teams and the confidential tests that we bring consumers through. There is this moment-to-moment creation that happens now.

Many Call of Duty games in the past were scripted, but in this the players are generating the wild helicopter rides, the takedowns from ATVs and truck beds, the powers and abilities that you find as you move through the map… It’s putting in the hands of the fans this massive experience.

With early playtests apparently running smoothly, it will certainly be interesting to see how Blackout takes shape. Are you looking forward to trying out Call of Duty's upcoming battle-royale mode?
