Starting today, fans will finally see what it's like to play a battle royale game in
Call of Duty. The private beta for
Black Ops 4's Blackout mode, inspired by the battle royale genre, is now live on PlayStation 4.
The private beta gives players a glimpse into the brand new mode which
drops 80 players onto a map where they must fight until only one players (or squad) is left standing. Though inspired by games like
Fortnite and
PUBG, Blackout will offer its own unique
Call of Duty flair. The mode will feature weapons, vehicles, and
iconic parts of classic maps inspired by the
Black Ops series. And yes, t
hat even includes zombies.
Only those who have pre-ordered
Black Ops 4 at participating retailers will be granted access to the private beta. If you already downloaded the recent Multiplayer Beta, you will also be able to play the Blackout Beta.
“The Blackout Beta is just the beginning of a long journey that we plan to take with our fans,” said Dan Bunting, Treyarch's Co-Studio Head
“We are going to support Blackout for the long haul, and there’s such a rich history with Black Ops that allows us to continuously update and evolve Blackout to keep it fun and fresh for the community. It’s a true celebration of Black Ops in every way, and getting our community in to play the mode before launch is vital. We can’t wait to see the feedback and hear from players as they get a taste of what’s coming in October.”
Currently, the private beta is only available for PlayStation 4. The Xbox One and PC beta will begin on Friday, September 14. On Saturday, September 15, the PC beta will become open to the general public. The beta will end for all platforms on Monday, September 17.
