Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be introducing a new gamemode to the long-running series, one that takes advantage of the battle-royale craze that's currently sweeping through the gaming scene. A mode that has essentially remained a trademark of the first-person shooter series, however, is "Zombies". One that challenges players to see how long they can survive against endless rounds of the undead.
Though it had been speculated that Black Ops 4's battle-royale mode, named "Blackout", would feature the glowy-eyed hordes it wasn't outright confirmed until recently. According to a recent article by Game Informer, AI-controlled zombies will spawn in various locations across the map, thereby adding another hazard to overcome - on top of your human opponents. The article notes:
If you’ve played any of the zombie modes in the previous Black Ops games, you probably have a wave-based defense game in mind. However, Blackout’s zombies, and how they fit into battle royale, are a bit different from the traditional mode. In the days to come, we’ll break down how the undead figure into Blackout, and how they can be both a pest and a boon to your efforts to be the best warrior on the battlefield.
In Blackout, the player will be able to adorn the appearance of iconic characters from previous Call of Duty titles - both campaign characters like Sgt. James Woods, and zombies-mode characters like Edward Richtofen. As well as that, the mode's map is essentially a mishmash of fan-favourite maps from previous games - again, that's both multiplayer maps and zombies maps. So you'd imagine that places like Verruckt will be a hotspot for the undead.
What do you think of Call of Duty: Black Ops' iconic zombies featuring in Blackout? Are you looking forward to playing the battle-royale mode?
