Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has officially been announced, but details such as release dates and platforms have still yet to be revealed. These details will likely be announced when the game is formally revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase next month.
However, an image shared by a Reddit user earlier today supposedly shows the GameStop pre-order information for Call of Duty 6, which suggests the game will be coming to last-gen consoles. The image shows the SKUs for Black Ops 6 on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 -- both of which were a given -- as well as PlayStation 4.
While we don't see Xbox One, it's almost certain to arrive on the platform if it's coming to PS4. Insider-Gaming verified the details in the leaked image with "several GameStop employees and developers of the game," adding that the Xbox Series X|S version is a "cross-generation version." This means it will also work on the Xbox One and therefore doesn't need its own SKU, which is why that specific platform version is not listed.
With the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One now over 10 years old -- the consoles will both be 12 years old by the time Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is released -- many were probably wondering about the game's fate on last-gen systems. But given how many people still own last-gen consoles and how popular the Call of Duty franchise is, it's not really a surprise that Activision would want to release the game on these older systems as well.
Activision has recently starting ramping up the marketing machine for this year's Call of Duty, launching a new site -- www.thetruthlies.com -- and releasing multiple teaser videos. Specific plot details for the game have yet to be revealed, but the teasers released so far suggest some sort of global conspiracy that is about to be uncovered. There is speculation that this year's game might even touch on the events of 9/11.
If you go TheTruthLies.com, you'll see an interactive television with six channels hosting the teaser videos. Right now only four of the channels have actual videos, with the final two just showing static. All of the videos suggest some sort of lies being told.
What does it all mean? We don't quite know, but all will be revealed next month.
Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9 a 10:00 a.m. PST will feature the reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Following the event will be a specific Black Ops 6 direct that will provide an in-depth look at all-new gameplay and product announcements.
